Description. Skeletal muscle cells are incredibly large with diameters of up to 100 micrometers and up to 30 cm long. Muscle fibers are arranged in bundles, called fascicles, and multiple fascicles form muscles that provide the means for us to move our joints. Skeletal muscle appears striped because of the regular arrangement of proteins involved in muscle contraction, actin and myosin.
